King’s Throne
Throne carved from "kayu merah" wood, West Timor. Features two finely carved roosters (a symbol of virility) on top of the backrest, and two similar roosters on either side of the seat. Provincial "kings" sat in these to dispense instructions and wisdom to their subjects. The throne fits together ingeniously without pegs or nails. The wood is resistant, and with minor maintenance can be used outside. Age: mid-late 20th century.
